I was almost 3 weeks past my due date when my son was finally born. I was in so much discomfort, that I tried everything. My doctor (whom was a horrible, horrible person, who actually yelled at me to shut up during a contraction which hurt, because she wouldn't check on me until it was too late for any medications...) would not induce me, nor did she choose to do a C-Section when my son stopped breathing. Believe me, I tried everything.

Eventually, I just went into labor naturally. Trust me, though- I did NOT go back to that doctor for my 3rd child. My doctor for my 3rd agreed to induce if I went even 5 days over. Actually, with my last, I was due Christmas Eve, and I was induced on the 27th early in the morning after spending the night at the hospital with semi-painful braxton hicks contractions. All he did to induce me, though, was break my water for me. That was at 8am on the nose. At 10:58am, I was done with labor.

Sex is not a cure all to going into labor, though it might help. It's more helpful before this point, though, because all it really serves to do is soften your cervix, and if you've already begun dialating, your cervix is already softening on it's own. Most women are dialated to at least 1 or 2 by their 40th week, though.

You could also try walking, but just slow easy walking. Some women might recommend jumping, but the chances are greater of you falling and hurting yourself than of it actually inducing labor.

Some people recommend spicy foods, but really... all that serves is to burn your belly, cause heart burn, and not feel good on the way back out. Yes, that was gross. So is labor when you get to the nitty gritty parts of it.

Another thing that is said to bring on labor is a high tempeture. When I was 5 months along with my 1st child, I was hospitalized for a week with a severe kidney infection. They told me they were required to keep me until my fever broke and stayed gone for 24 hours without medication. I asked why, and the nurse said that high tempetures can bring on early labor. Thus, the taboo of sitting in a hot bath, or a hot tub, or taking a long hot shower. So, hey, that might work. I've had friends try that, and none succeeded, though.

Bascially, your body is getting ready, and when it's ready, it will start the process naturally. The longer you allow nature to take course, the easier it will be on your body.

Every woman who has ever been pregnant knows the feeling of being pregnant, and thinking it will never end. What TV show was it where the pregnant woman got mad, and stated quite clearly that her child was going to be 12 by the time it came out? That's a perfectly natural feeling, and trust me- we've all felt it.

40 weeks and 2 days is still within the average span of "on time". Unless you know the exact day you conceived, you never know- the baby might actually only be 39 weeks and 4 days old. ;)

Hang in there, and get plenty of rest over the next few days. You'll need it when the time finally does come, and when the pain hits, you'll be saying, "I'm not ready!"

Good luck!

If you want to induce labor sex is not an inducer. That is an old wive's tale. Your baby will be born when it is ready. Is the head engaged in the birthing canal, or also sometimes called "dropped" meaning your belly has dropped a little not much.

Every birth is different some women go into labor and have contractions without realizing it, every birth you have will be different from this one, so there is no hard fast rule about a miracle. If you feel a tightening of your belly that is a contraction, I thought that labor began with great pain, this is not always the case, the tightening of the belly usually starts and is painless at first, and usually can be timed to the minute, what I mean is, at first it may be every hour, then after a couple of those the contractions (tightening) may start coming every 40 minutes or 1/2 hour. and will continue this way until they reach the five minutes apart, and usually increase in severity as they become closer together.

Walking is helpful, but for my third I had contractions every night that went to the 5 minutes stage and no work was being done, meaning no dialation of the uterus, in the end I had to have a C-section, while my first 3 pregnancies were natural births. But every one was different then the other so once you live through it you will know what I mean. Good Luck.

Sex At 40 Weeks Pregnant

Although I am only 19 weeks with my first child, I have heard that going for a long walk, having a good hot curry and then taking a relaxing bath and tweaking your nipples are good ways to get things moving. But none of this will work if you body and baby are not ready. I have heard that being induced can lead to more painful, intense labour, so if there is no medical reason that you need to be induced, avoid it. That baby will come out, staying pregnant is just not an option!

OK, I had sex twice, and OK, I know this sounds CRAZY, but whatever works right? Have your husband rub your nipples and give you a foot massage focusing on the ankles and balls of your feet. Stimulating your nipples releases potossin which can increase labor Foot massage can also for some reason, stimulate certain nerves to cause contractions. Also, I stood with my legs shoulder length apart and rocked from side to side... this seemed to really help get the contractions starting... About thirty minutes after sex and of rocking back and forth my contractions started. Good luck!!!

Sex doesnt work. We have sex ALL the time and it hasnt induced any labor. You should eat a really big meal and then do alot of walking....like at the mall or something...and if that doesnt work, go to the doctor and they'll induce you since you are over your due date.

Can't speak from personal experience, but a friend of mine who was having trouble took a long, and I mean LONG, as long as she could stand (!) walk around the neighborhood and even around the mall. It worked for her! That would make me a little nervous, but I guess if someone was there to drive up in the car right away and take you to the hospital if need be, you're okay! :) Good luck. Hope babycakes comes along soon!

I was a week late with my daughter so we tried the sex thing and it actually didn't work. Everyone tells you different things to do. A friend told me to eat a bowl of ice cream. I had a piece of ice cream cake and the next day I started having contractions. I sympathize with you. Good luck and best wishes for a fast delivery.

After trying EVERYTHING to induce labor, the sex worked. It's got to be 'rough' sex, not gentle loving sex. His penis has got to get that cervix all roughed up. After sex which was late in the morning (I was 41 weeks), I just felt sort of sick and painful from it. Labor started several hours after that. My son was born the next day. Good luck!
