I have an ultrasound in one week and I'll be a little more than 12 weeks along. I know that the sex is already determined and they have the correct parts, but it was my belief that they will be too small to see at this point whether it is a girl or boy. My friend said they were able to tell this early in her pregnancy, but I doubt it. When is the earliest they will be able to detect the gender of your child?

At six weeks after conception, your baby already has its tiny parts. However, they're not identifiable at that time. Somewhere between 16 and 20 weeks, you'll be able to get an ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby. Mine was incredibly stubborn and didn't want to uncross her legs! I had to wait until almost 24 weeks to find out I am having a little girl.

The sex is not identifiable at 12 weeks... I was told at 16 weeks that I was probably having a boy, and then at 20 weeks they confirmed this... You should find out within a month or two.

I have been told that they can tell as early as 15 weeks but most of the time it is 16 to 20 weeks.

In the delivery room. I swear it! I had 3 children and with my last I had no fewer than 7 ultrasounds and they told me it was another boy. They had always been right before, so I kept all the blue stuff we had from our 1st two boys. In the delivery room we were sure surprised to meet my lovely daughter!!!

Usually if the tech does say one way or the other it is pretty accurate. Hey, like the song says - two outta three ain't bad. :-)

Congratulations and all the best wishes to you and your family!

We didn't see that it was a boy until we had our ultrasound at 19 weeks. It epends if the baby cooperates or not..but I was told not until 18 weeks or so!

It depends on how the baby is positioned. I didnt find out till I was 22 weeks! My little girl kept her back to my stomach and everytime they would touch where she was she would run like a chicken. LOL. Hopefully you will find out soon. I know how it eats at you to know what your baby will be! Good Luck.

Typically it's not until 18wks or more. As you already know 12wks is too early. It's next to impossible for the ultrasound tech to see that part of the anatomy.
