Home made bread requires several things to be of 'bakery quality'. First find the best ingredients you can, don't be tempted by gimmicks like self rising flour or bread machine recipies. Second is enough time to allow the dough to proof (rise) when the yeast feeds off the carbs in the dough and produce Co2 as a levening agent. Third is an oven with a baking stone (even heat source) and finaly you need steam to give the crust the correct texture; this can be accomplished with a misting from a spray bottle at the begging of the baking process. Allow three to four hours to properly make bread.

Better, all bread was made in someones home first. Pick up a new bread maker, or find one used. Some types of bread don't require a machine. Look on line for recipes

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!!! PICK ME PICK ME!!!
YES IT CAN!!! It is one of my favorite cool weather things to do. And I make it from scratch! Well, you don't have to actually scratch it anymore! Isn't that a relief? And forget the Bread Machines. That might be 'okay', but it is not the same as putting your hands into the dough and making perfection! People seem to think it is hard. IT IS EASY, but takes a little time, and well worth it to butter up warm, fresh baked bread! BUT..you have to make at least two loaves, because the FIRST loaf will be gone before it is cool enough to eat!

Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! And there are hundreds of cook books just on that subject. Bread Baking is very rewarding experience. Get your water temp. just right for the yeast, to kneading the bread, watching it rise and very relief stressing, you get to punch the dough. Then you get to smell it as it bakes, and then finally, pulling it out of the oven to let it cool. You'll love it. Good Luck

you can experiment with different mixes of flour, white brown wholemeal. Add pine nuts, dried tomatoes, dried apricots, whatever you like.

not every loaf will be a success, in my experience. human error creeps in sometimes so the garden birds get a treat.

Although now we live in a village in France with a baker 50 yards away, it is much easier to buy our bread.
