From late 80's-early 90's stars Judd Nelson as a totally evil killer - this movie scared the crap out of me because of how heartless he was - it was too real - not like a Jason or Freddy movie.

Relentless (1989) was one of the best underrated psycho-thriller cop movies I have ever seen. They thought that because it was so good, they could get away with 2 sequels, but it was Judd Nelson that made the movie. They just couldn't come up with another serial killer that was so realistically creepy as Judd, and Leo Rossi as the homicide detective (and Meg Foster's most annoying performance ever) couldn't carry it on his own. It's really a shame too, I would have liked to have seen two more that were as good.

Add on... Thanks tnmack, I had not heard of a fourth Relentless movie, I'll definitely have to check it out. It's not available on Netflix (neither is the third one), and IMDb's DVD information page is blank, so it may not be available anywhere but I'll surely try!

Came out in the late 80s after Judd Nelson ended his "brat pack" phase.

Awesome movie -- actually had a plot. The 4 sequels were actually good enough to stand alone.
Kind of reminds me of "Manhunter". This was a movie about the book "Red Dragon" written by Thomas Harris. After "Silence of the Lambs" it was redone as "The Red Dragon".
"Manhunter" actually used plot and character development (instead of gore) to capture your attention.

It's actually quite a good thriller. Very straightforward, no gimmicks. Just like the title.

I recommend it to anyone with a Sat. night stuck at home to rent it and check it out. It's worth the $2 rental.
