So I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and the shifter wont barge and then finally got into gear with some effor. The next thing I heard was a boom as if something blew up. Tried shifting into the different gears. Nothing! Just free revved with each gear when I pressed on the gas... So I slowed down using my brakes and pulled into a street corner. As I was slowing down, I heard a constant hiss/whining sound from the engine (would have heard it before if it wasn't for the o/r midpipe. I thought my transmission might have been shot. The car idled and I shifted through all the different gears without even using the clutch pedal itself!!! The car wont go anywhere. The clutch pedal feels very heavy. Is it my transmission that got shot or is it something else?

Could be a couple things. If you are in gear and the engine is idling can you look under the car and see the drive shaft moving? If so your rear-end is shot. Or if you see the drive shaft laying on the ground then your U-Joint broke. It can also be your transmission. Best bet is get it up on jack stands and try to manually turn the drive shaft under the car. if the rear tires move then you know its the tranny.

you must be sure your in the gruve or you jamm two gears. if its a sideloader(where the shift arms are)you might have jammed into two gears but it usually means a bind. where you letout the clutch and it dies. this can be usually fixed by hitting the shift arms with a steady sharp blow. but you must understand which way to hit em or ya could really goof up.i havent worked on a trans in a 2005 mustang. but i imagine its a top loader(where all the stuff inside is loaded in) but the actual shifting linkage is in the back section ,and the shifter is bolted on with 4 little bolts on top. maybe you will be lucky as you must get the shifter off before you yank the trans out. my guess is you snapped off the bottom of the shifter. once you drop the crossmember ,you can get to the shifter boltz.pull it strait up and off to the side at the bottom you might have removed the knob before the shifter..anyway. inspect the bottom of the shifter it should have a ball like shape or a cylindrical plastic thang on the ball .if it not there then get into the car and look down and see if you can remove all of the fragments. if its not broken; look into the shifter cavity you should see three rods rev&1st~ 2nd&third~ 4th&5th put a screw driver in there and try to move them to where they go . any how the slots should all line up.if you look you will understand how it works.if you can feel them kinda snap back and forth into gear. all three or maybe 4 of em.then make sure the slots are lined up andre install the shifter put some silicone on where the gasket was.clean the surfaces of course if the shifting rods are just moving part way or it feels bad. (they should all basically feel the same to move)then you must remove the trans. or if you dont know allot about fixin cars; dont.if you raise the car. don't get under it without jack stands.if it killed you everyone would be sad. if it maimed you and you couldnt have sex anymore. THAT WOULD SUCK!! good luck.
ps if you shift through all the gears and it dont move. check the speedo. if its werkin .you blew thru a rearend.

Sounds more like your clutch since you can shift through the gears... try that first, your clutch pedal feeling heavy is the first clue... COULD be the tranny but my best guess would ride on the clutch being your culprit! The boom you heard could have easily been the clutch and the hissing could have been it coming apart... just be glad it didn't come up through the floorboard! (Check Don Garlitz (sp?)... and his dragster....)
Hope that helps!

sounds to me like you are in serious need of a transmission mechanic when you had to use as you said effort to shift the gears sounds like two gears were engaging at the same time. the cause of this in mustangs was a low quality roll pin in the shifting forks inside the trans instead of the fork pulling the trans out of 2nd gearthe pin sheared off then you forced it into third also.

Could be the clutch assy. Keep your fingers crossed (as a clutch replacement is MUCH cheaper than a trans) tow it to your favorite mechanic for the news.

i have met some transexuals. and in many circumstances, in the experience that they are severe about being a transexual really of a transvestite, then they look time-honored. clone of an common female you'll see alongside the line. even with the indisputable fact that, "drop lifeless awesome"? Naw. i have in no way for my section met one.

Input shaft isn't a simple repair, you have to pull the tranny, and take it apart.

it's the pressure plate, or the input shaft. Simple repair either way.
Really easy fix.
