If the Left was as rabid about the 2nd amendment as they are the 1st amendment, We'd all have the right to bear Nuclear Arms!

Thank you.

The second amendment says that you have the right to keep (own) and bear (carry) arms. That means that, short of changing this amendment to Constitution, there is no way that the government can confiscate your weapons or prevent you from carryng them publicly.

You can define it down as long as you want. The US government only rules by consent of the governed, and the only way to keep a tyrannical government under control is by keeping ultimate coercive force in the hands of the electorate. Coercive force is the key concept here. Power of force.

The Brits gave this up long ago: you cannot legally protect yourself, and knives are no longer PC. If you encounter an armed burglar or a dictator, I suggest you sharpen up your blunt-nosed safety scissors.

"The right to keep and bear arms" has been debated for over 200 years. A ship has a keep, also known as a hold. Neither of these terms means "to own". The langauge has changed much over the years. We also no longer have "well regulated militias", and if we did who would regulate them. The Civil War armies were made up largely of State Militias.

The Supreme Cournt cannot decide exactly what it means.... is it for every individual to own a gun or does it mean we may have a militia? That's what the fuss is about.
