She trys several times a day with only a small amount of soft stool coming out, not hard. This has been going on for about of month. At first I thought she was constipated and gave her an enema after trying sencot and suppository. The stool that came out after the enema was not hard stool. Right now I'am giving her 2 teaspoons of mineral oil a day, water, prune apple juice, fresh fruit and vegtables, I have cut out anything I think that might be constipating. After 4 days of her trying to go and she cant, I give her sencot or a suppository and the last few times that didnt work and gave her an enema. I dont uderstand why she cant poop, she was going every day, and now its every 4 days with the help of sencot, a suppository or an enema. I do not like giving her suppositorys, enemas, or sencot because I dont want her dependent on them. Why cant she push the poop out when it is soft stool and not hard?

I plan on calling her doctor tomorrow. I do not give her sencot, suppositories and all that together all the time at one time. I try to let her go on her own, and only try one sencot or a suppository if she hasnt gone after 4 days of trying. I have given her an enema once. I have been giving her mineral oil every day for the past week because I read on here that would help. She is not in any pain at all and, is very active and happy.
She eats a well balanced diet, I dont just give her the things I mentioned and thats all. I have just had her start drinking prune apple juice and more water, fruits and vegtables. She still has other foods besides those and I have cut out foods that may be causing it like she loves bananas , cottage cheese and yogurt.
Thanks for all your answers

Well didnt have to take her to the doctor !She finally got it out and I didnt give her a suppository or enema. I was just giving her the mineral oil which on this site it says is suppose to be pretty safe to use. She went 3 times and the first one was thick and pasty is why it wouldnt come out . I think the mineral oil helped her alot but took a few days to kick in.

What goes in comes out. What are you feeding her. Is she getting a balanced diet, sounds like you're feeding her all the wrong kind of things and to make matters worse you've probably got her worried and stressed out about her bowel movement and you have created a vicious circle. Please go to a doctor and a nutritionist and sort this matter out.

Ok. This sounds like way, way too much laxatives, prune juice and whatever for a small child. It begs the question if there is any hard stool in there at all or if all these "interventions" have actually made it so her whole stool is soft and loose. beleive it or not, soft stool can acutally be hard to get out. It almost sounds like you are giving her mild diarrhea.

It is not absolutely necessary that child or any person have a large hard stool every day. Or even every two. As children grow, as they eat differently, their bowel pattern changes. Don't interfere for every little change.

All what you are giving her can cause loose stools and pain and make her have to try often because of all the pain in there. Quit. Quit and give her normal food, don't worry about it for a bit, let her eat, play, run whatever. See what happens. It may take several days for her system to recover and begin normal function.

Then if you are worries more, take her to a doctor, but seriously, I would stop all the interventions and relax some. It is not even uncommon for little kids to get a bit constipated, but usually they will work it out. All the stuff you are doing can seriously make it all worse. It is impossible for her body to make formed stool with what you are giving her. It is also a risk for her not absorbing her food well.

Because you are giving her suppositories, enemas and sencot. None of which should be necessary for a four year old. Nor should she be getting two teaspoons of mineral oil a day. That just prevents her digestive system from absorbing the minerals and vitamins from her food.
If she is passing soft stool, stop worrying.
It's a little disturbing though, that you are putting her through all this but haven't been to see her pediatrician yet. That would seem to make more sense.
Sometimes young children retain stool simply because they are learning to take control of their bodies. If you get upset about her stool, she realizes that she has the upper hand in this matter. As long as the stool is soft, and she is continuing to pass it, quit fussing, unless the doctor tells you otherwise.

If she's not in any pain in the meantime, it just might be her body's way of changing as she gets older, and every few days might be what becomes regular for her body. If she is in pain, perhaps you should call the pharmacist tonight for a suggestion for something to help get her through the weekend, and her doctor first thing Monday morning to find out what is causing it.

I have a friend with a very constipated child. It could be that the bowel is not functioning properly.

Sometimes the stomach shuts down intermittenly - called (Gastroparesis (sp) maybe the bowel does the same thing.

You really should see a Doctor.

Poor kid..........too much meat will cause constipation. You might want to try 'Prodium' fibre supplement. Is she overweight? Does she get lots of physical activity? If this doesn't resolve soon, you will have to take her to the doctor. Perhaps she has a partial bowel obstruction. I hope she feels better soon.

your child needs a doctor. there are numerous problems with what you have been doing. one is that people who use mineral oil regularly can become malnourished. it coats the digestive tract and prevents absorption of nutrients. laxative dependency would be a crime in such a young child- you are headed there. you did what you could. now let a professional take over.
