you break up, you avoid contact, you move on with your life, you make sure you avoid the ex as much as you can, yet you hear things he is saying about you, very rude things, very mean things, you don't ask him to be friends, yet he makes it very clear to your friends you are a ***** and he will never be your friend, he is an *** all the way around, you on the other hand say nothing about him. childish or what

Not always.....damn near all of my ex's are cool with me. Hell sometimes I get phone calls out of the blue from them, "just wanna say hi, and see how you're doin'". Sometimes they stop over if they are in the area (especially if they are loved by the fam) and I still get gifts on holidays and my birthday from a couple of them.
And u basically answered your own question, u said that "he is an *ss all the way around" that explains it. The ex's I'm friends/associates with never were asses. They may have made their mistakes (and I've made mine), or we just weren't a good match. But all in all they respected me.
Just ignore him, and don't worry about what he is saying to your friends. If your friends are true, then they know who and what you really are and won't need your ex to confirm that. He's bitter. Let him be, and don't let him make you bitter too, that's what he wants.

.You are acting like an individual with class. Continue to be that way. He is being himself...a low life jerk.
Rejoice and sing praises that you are rid of him. His constant ragging on you help others to really see him as well. He is lighting himself up like a neon sign and doesn't have a clue.
Here is my personal quote that I would like to share with you. "Whenever things are not going your way, use it as an opportunity to show how much class you have".
You are already doing a good job. He will surely get what he deserves...and so will you.

That is life, and that is guys. Guys I think have hard feelings after a break up. If you get a bf or you are with someone else that will upset him and that will make him want to be very mean to you.

this is not so much guys as just insecure jerks. the idea is that they want to make you look bad so that they'll look good. it's lame.
girls do it too, though, so don't think it's a one-way street.

that's guys nature and better that way. The problem is, is they don't be mean, they would do sweet things that torture you, which is worse.
