I have Windows XP Home on my laptop. I have two userr accounts. When I click on mine (on either) I get a small box that's grey with a blue bar across the top, and a red X in the middle. Below that it says "yes" or "no" or sometimes it just says "ok"

But when I click the user names and the box comes whether I press yes or no, then it says "logging off, saving settings" and will not go to my desktop, and I don't know why.

Is that a new virus? Please help! (I am using a different laptop right now.)

Oh yeah: Exact same problem is safe mode. I cannot get past the sign on screen.

Hmm. If you can't get to it even in safe mode, then I don't know what to tell you. Try taking it to Best Buy, they'll look at it (and maybe fix it if its minor) for free. good luck.

That's a little strange.... Disconnect your computer from the internet. Then restart the computer in safe mode. (get the boot menu by hitting f8 as it boots.) The hidden administrator account should show up in safe mode click on that user and do each of the following.

1. Scan with your antivirus program
2. Scan with your spyware software
3. Start>Run msconfig and click on the startup tab. Uncheck all of the programs in the startup folder other than your antivirus/firewall/spyware programs.
4. Restart your computer and see if things are working again.
5. Update your AV and spyware definitions

Reboot the Computer
Tap the F8 key on the keyboard
Choose Safe Mode
Log on.
Start
Run
type: msconfig, then press enter.
Go to startup
Uncheck everything
OK
It asks you if you want to restart, choose Yes
Computer will reboot be back to normal hopefully...
