what is the 9/10th for on the price of gas? it's 1.99 and 9/10th why not just 2.00?

probably the same reason everything they sell on late night tv is 19.95!

It started because gas was 20 cents a gallon in the beginning. And that 10th of a penny mattered. It stayed on as marketing, since people see 1.99 and think thats about a buck, while 2.00 is two dollars. Not rational, but thats how folks think.

The advertisers found out years ago that products sell better when the price is displayed like this instead of making it rounded up to the higher number.Since then everybody sets there prices this way.

Because in todays world, the price of gas is competetive to within a few cents, so it makes it seem like their gas is cheaper.
