Whenever I ask a question here it is because I need an answer right? so, whenever I do find an answer that I find good I choose it and let the person who gave the answer know that it was a good answer and it helped.
So tell me this, why do people ask questions that they apparently "need an answer to urgently" and then just leave the question open till the end of time without choosing a best answer? It just baffles me...Any ideas?

Your answers are all really good...this will be a tough one to choose, but I will choose one...I always do.

Sometimes I ask questions on subjects I'm just not real knowledgable about and, after reading the answers, think it might be interesting to see if voters can weed through and determine a Best Answer for me.

As for the ones who ask "urgent" questions then never choose a best answer, my guess is that after they posted the question, they sat and refreshed the page repeatedly to see what new answers came up untill they hit upon one or two that made sense or fit the bill, then left. Perhaps short on time in their lives, they just couldn't come back to give a vote for best answer, or maybe they simply forgot.

I think it is because they are not here to answer questions but only heard about the site and just simply ask a question and got the answer. I have noticed that some have no idea of what this site is about. Some don't remember their passwords. I noticed today that one woman with a problem with her bird ask a question under one name and then came back and followed up under a new name. This tells me she did not remember her password or just did not know how to get back on.

I myself are like you and always come back and give the 10 points to someone. Even if it is so I can rebuttal a smart remark they made. Just getting to have the last word makes it worth it..

Possibly because they asked the question when they had some spare time, but while people were taking their time to answer, the weekend passed and the person had to go back to work. The person may have become swamped by his work and may not have the chance to come back and pick a best answer.

OR the person could be sick... or dead.

OR the person's computer might have crashed... or been stolen...

Any number of reasons...
there is life (and bills to be paid) outside of Yahoo Answers. :-)

I've noticed that a lot of people are looking for a forum for rants. They want to let everyone know their opinion, without really asking a question. I am of the opinion that those are the ones who let the time elapse and ignore the answers.

maybe they are so rushed that they got an answer (not necessarily from yahoo) and go with it, and don't have time to come back and thank people on yahoo.

then again, some people are just lazy, like those of us who don't use proper punctuation for instance ;-]

anyway, try not to stress over the actions of others, else you'll end up in a looneybin before you know it?!?

I have to admit, I rarely vote on a best answer. Perhaps I am lazy. I don't think that I am insensitive, as I give honest and sensitive answers to others. However, none of my questions have been "urgent", so at least I am off the hook on that one.

I apologize for my laziness.

Many probably just forget. They may also not be all that into the "best answer thing" and don't realize that someone else may be more conscientious about making sure to acknowledge a best answer.

I think it would be absurd to ask a question you "absolutely needed an answer to" here...because really..this is not a place for answers in truth..nine times out of ten it is a place for oppinions...

Some people only ask things they don't care about, while some people really do need answers.
