My bathroom has a sink!

However, I have seen some houses where the toilet is separate from the main bathroom, normally in a tiny room right next door so you just use the sink in the bathroom. I don't know why they're designed that way, but most houses have the toilet in the bathroom with a sink and shower etc.

Some older houses on the outskirts of cities (like my grandparents house) were built before there was a city wide sewerage system, and the toilet was out the back. According to my parents the sewerage was collected once a week. Once a proper sewer system was built many people had flushing toilets installed in their homes, and people who did not have room in their bathrooms sometimes had to have a small room constructed for a toilet only. The absence of a sink may have been a space thing.
