They're usually testing for pre-cancer cells during a pap (which is not necessarily cancer cells but could be HPV, which is genital warts, which can cause cancer). Hopefully you are scheduled for another pap soon. Sometimes the tests just do come back abnormal, which is why you would have to get another pap soon. Hopefully the next will come back normal. If you think you might be pregnant though, you should tell your gynecologist right away if you haven't.

There are many reasons why tests come back abnormal. However, pregnancy is not it. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PUT OFF GOING TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS! When mine came back abnormal, the doctor said the cells in my cervical area were developing cancerous ones and that they had to be removed so that the tissue could develop normal healthy ones instead. I had cryosurgery, which is a freezing of the cervical area. This freezing makes a snowball on the cervix that is filled with medicine. As the ball thaw out, the cancerous cells slough off, leaving healthy ones. It was somewhat painful for me but not for long. I stayed home on bed rest for about two days. A menstrual cycle followed. I had to see my doctor twice a year for two years. My pap tests were good to go thereafter.
What I learned is the sooner you go to get the results, the better. I was told that there are different degrees or levels that reflect the degree of cancerous cell development. He told me that if I'd put off coming to see what the problem was for like six months or so, I would have had full blown cancer and could have developed in other parts of my body. I was so glad I'd checked it all out. Please do the same. God Bless and I pray yours is not serious.

I used to help out in the cytology dept. They are the ones that read the paps. I have never heard of being pregnant would make it abnormal. The cells have a different look to them tho. But normally to be abnormal, they see abnormal cells. STD's for example and other forms that can cause cervical cancer.

well, not necisarily, i have paps done, before, after and during pregnancy..sometimes it comes up abnormal, so they check it again and it is fine...there could be many reasons for an abnormal pap, including a small yeast infection, hang in there, and don't worry to much yet.
