"If they give you lined paper, write the other way."
- Diogenese, classical Greek philosopher
The only time my expressions of freedom are deemed "hurting myself or others" is when the majority want to prevent freedoms and force me to agree.
My ability to criticize the government, to burn my country's flag, not to stand for a "national anthem", to be an atheist while fascist christians seek to impose religion, and several other "offenses" ARE my expressions of freedom. Being called an iconoclast is a badge of honour.
The ability to legally do things that others don't like, to disagree with the majority, THAT is a sign of freedom. Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
- Theodore Roosevelt
"Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves."
- Abraham Lincoln

Currently someone else decides that for everyone, including the definition of free: the voice of our culture. We are slaves to this culture of 40 hour work weeks with barely enough to get by; trading valuable moments of time, our life, for money. We spend so little time with our families because we have to go to work, school, church. It never used to be this way. I hope someday to be free. To move on beyond civilization.

I used to hang out at our local mall buck naked. Of course that did hurt a few on lookers. The local police decided for me that it was not best.

I protested a Religious Right convention in DC today with my friends in the Beltway Atheists. I decide for myself what is best for myself, and I try to make life better for others.
