where are you talking about. If its the U.S. then I think your wrong. Many religous people want laws that reflect their religous believes only because they feel the laws would better protect us not because they want to control and convert.

Because if democracy is accepted in islamic countries, Islamic radicals know that their submisive religion will lose followers, once people get to know and taste the sweet flavor of liberty, individualism, free press, religious liberty, free expresion. etc.
The only way they can keep control is keeping the muslim world hostage and submisive under Theocratic goverments.
Yes that´s following the footsteps of Iran, Sudan, and Somalia.
Islamist are afraid to compare their way of life with other options because they´ll be in total disadvantage.

Having a theocracy - a form of government in which God is the highest ranking Member - requires GOD instituting it, NOT man... The Jews - God's Chosen people - rejected this form of government and asked for a king to rule over them instead... Oddly enough, God granted their wish... The first, Saul, was a flop... Then, God raised up David - "a man after His own heart" and things got better... Then, his son, Solomon, went against the Law and should've been executed, but escaped unscathed pretty much... I've got to talk to God about THAT when I get to heaven...

Theocracy = Government by God. Only one nation in history succeeded at that, and that was ancient Israel. Christians don't want a theocracy, they only want laws that reflect strong moral values returned to this nation. That's NOT a theocracy.

Thats what most liberals think conservatives want but far from it. We merely want society to reflect conservatives values and morality. Things like trying to redefine marriage and killing unborn babies are an unfortunate immoral bi-product of western civilization and in no why should be supported or funded by the Govt.

And on the flipside of the above comment, I would guess that most freedom loving people would prefer to not have outdated morals shoved down their throats.
Morality is not black and white. There are as many shades of gray as their are people. Conservitives see all morals as equal... they just feel that their morals are more equal... or just plain superior and thus should be forced on everyone.....

Because they feel that their religious laws should also be the rule of law for every aspect of their lives. It is one more way that the readicals hold hostage their own people.
But freedom will win through, it always has throughout history, for man cannot survive under such restraints.

I doubt they can see far enough to see the on ramp to state sanctioned fundamentalism.
I think it's just their knee jerk reaction to a percieved threat on their way of life. It's their way of getting rid of any other religions as well as atheists, agnostics, gays, lesbians, immigrants from different cultures, etc.. who don't follow their own narrow interpretation of the world and how to live in it.

Sure, and that's exactly what it is. Such people are jealous and frightened: jealous of others whose joy they can't steal a bit of and terrified that others won't conform to their narrow definitions. Pathetic, isn't it?
