I've a huge fan of premiership football. One thing that always amazes me is the enormous amount of attention that David Beckhman gets as a player. I've followed the careers of Thierry Henry, Micheal Owen, and Van Nistelrooy. These guys can practically make shots with their eyes closed. Beckham on the other hand is far less frequent. So what justifies the attention?

He was part ot the Man Utd revival initially along with Giggs,the Neville brothers and Scholles. He is a nice looking guy and was a very good player. What got him the mass media attention was his marriage to Victoria who of course was enjoying great success with the Spice Girls (although she can't sing to save her life). To the media it was the perfect match. Until about 10-12 games ago I could not have imagined an England team without Beckham. Suddenly however his form just went and I was one of those calling for him to be dropped. I have always thought he was overrated but he has been a great servant to Man Utd and England and I wish him well. The three players you mention are totally different. They are strikers expected to score goals. Beckham was never a striker more of a provider.

He is one of the best passers I have ever seen! He also takes a mean free kick.
But he has a lot of celebrity elements. He is good looking and has been in a lot of TV and magazine ads, he married Posh Spice and they are a celebrity couple. Although most people who know football know Becks is a rather average player its his celebrity that makes him seem like he is a Maradona or Pele.
Just look at the furor over his being dropped from England. Does that same level of attention happen to other players? Not usually I think. Its just the media that gives him so much more attention.

Maureen.. What justifies the attention? Are you a GIRL? And if you are you straight? I think I answered your attention. Beckham is good in one thing. Set pieces. The rest(athleticism, stength, technique) nowhere close to the players you mentioned. But Beckham is a midfielder and everyone you metioned is a striker so naturally they should score more.

yup, he is. im a football freak & am obsessed wid it. beckham's a gud player but no doubt he is overrated. he takes gud free kicks & penalties but u have to realize that he is a midfielder & not an attacker. he cannot single handedly win games for england. englang need a gud striker up front who can really fire constantly.
actually, the whole english team is overrated cuz english media creates the hype for them. they will never have the class & style like brazil & germany.
but still i feel england need a playmaker like beckham in the midfield so mclaren shudnt have got him off the team. but beckham is really really overrated.
he's more of a celebrity off the field than on it. he's a gud player but is highly overrated.

yes.. i have also been wondering y does he get all the publicity.. but then i thought mayb he has done sum special thing like broke a record that i dont know about.. but as u said there is nothing so special he's done i cant understand y does media follow him so much.. i mean being cute is not sumthing that much worthy of attraction in sum game..
btw i dont even think he's that much of a cute guy as txbklgrl said... just a normal average okay guy..

I think he is overrated alright. He is married to a celebrity and that also matters but you are right there are other players much better than him in my opinion just like there are other tennis players more beautiful and talented than Maria S. but somehow Maria S, gets a lot of publicity. don't know why thou i think I do, hehehe

YES. Ok he is one of the best crossers of the ball in the world but attacking wise he is crap. He cannot attack fullback when he plays in right midfield. Lennon for england is what a right sided midfielder is supposed to do attack people and run at them.

he's overrated in the sense that people think he is one of the best, but other than that, he isn't. i don't think that his personality seems overrated in the least. he's only as overrated as people want him to be.

deffienately, his only strength is his long ball accuracy and ability, apart from that i dont rate him highly at all
