They must have probable cause, this can be anything from a burned out tail light to speeding to suspecting you of DUI. They can't pull you over just because.
With that being said, are you doing anything to attract attention to yourself??? I love the idiots...ya know the "Fast and Furious" wannabees with their supped up rice-burners, ground effects, and stereos so loud the whole f--king city can hear them, riding around in the gangsta lean??? Then they piss and moan because they are constantly getting f--ked with by the police. If you are like one of those morons may I suggest buying a new car with a normal stereo, normal tires, and only lights that came factory, ya know like the majority of the population??? Try this and I can promise you as long as you obey the traffic laws the police will leave you alone.

Depends on where you are. In Ontario, a cop can stop you just to ask you for your license and registration. You don't have to be speeding or anything like that at all.

not having a seat belt on, driving erratically, going too fast or too slow, improper lane change. my gf was ticketed for staying in the left lane long after she passed a vehicle.

They can stop you for any reason they want to. When they stop you, you better have your driver's license, owner's card, and proof of insurance with you.
