the trans needs to be rebuilt.
you have blown a band or a gear.

Try to shift into 4 wheel drive and see if it will function as a front wheel drive. If it goes then your problem is in the transfer case. If it does not then probably transmission. Be sure to check the fluid levels before you spend alot of money. Low trans fluid will cause the same symptom. Since the gears are constantly in mesh you shouldn't have any hard problems.

you did not say if it will go in reverse. the clicking sounds like it is not all the way in gear, try moving the shift lever a little up and down. of course you should check the fluid level, check it on level ground, it has a cold level and a hot level. if that much fluid is lost that the trans won't move ,there is more serious problems and a trans mechanic should work on it.

it sounds like a transmission problem,,i own a repair shop,,ad the clicking noise is kind of strange though,,you need to have someone come and look at it and give you an opinion on it,,it may be something simple on it,but without seeing it this is the best i can do for you,im not going to tell you 50 things it might be because i cant see it,,i do recommend you check the fluid in the transmission to see if its OK,,other than that,,you need an eyes on opinion of it,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

check the transmission fluid from the dipstick while the engine on level ground to see if you have enough tranny fluid in it.....the fluid level should be between the high and the low marks on the dipstick if not add the proper transmission fluid(see your owner's manual)and till it to the correct level.....that's the easy part if our jeep shifts properly then great if not then you need to take it to a transmission shop to take care of it.hopefully the warranty is still in effect. good luck

Any bets you haven't checked your transmission fluid? If it is too low, you won't be going anywhere. Clicking can be any of a long list of things, depending on where it is coming from, and whether or not you are moving when it happens.

Does the linkage to the transmission need adjusting?

Sounds like the gears are trying to mesh, but aren't quite getting there.

your transmission cord is probably stipped or ripped or broken....get a mechanic out there and they'll tell you
