The reason you are probably bleeding:
Smoking can cause the placenta to grow on the lower part of the uterus so that once the cervix begins to dilate hemorrhage may occur (placenta previa) and, if this is not scary enough, smoking is also associated with an increased risk of abruptio placenta (a separation of the placenta from the uterine wall causing bleeding and even fetal death)
Bleeding is never a good thing when pregnant and many times is because your body is trying to expel the fetus (miscarriage).
Good luck though when you quit and I hope all is well with your baby!

I smoked, my babygirl was 5lbs 5oz. & 100% healthy, still is at 6 months. I think the best thing you could do is quit, but from experience I know its super hard to do. During my contractions my baby's heart rate would drop a lot, that was scary. Also, there was poop in the womb from fetal distress, plus I was 3 days overdue. I quit for a total of 44 days when I was 6 and 7 months pregnant but then started again. I'm now pregnant again and am slowly quitting, I hope for good.

This is what my dad did to stop smoking. If you have 5 a day then the next day you cut one. Then the next day you cut two, the next day three and so on. If you do want a cigarette then put a rubber band on your wrist and when you think about having a smoke you pull it then let go. After a while it will be so annyoing you will stop thinking about it, or go to a docter and waste money

No smoking cigs or anything else in your pregnancy, no drugs or booze either. How selfish! QUIT TODAY, not the end of the week. If you cared at all for your baby's health, you wouldn't even think twice. You are being very selfish. I hope you are under medical care because of the spotting - and tell the TRUTH to your doctor about the smoking, and any other risky behaviour you are involved in. Why hasn't your husband helped stop you?

honestly i was not able to quit while pregnant either, i did cut back drastically but i still felt like crap every time i lit up. you should ask your doctor about stop smoking aids that are safe while pregnant. you will hear alot of people say that they smoked and their baby turned out fine but don't listen to them. my son is 3 months old and so far he is ok, he was born 4wks early though and i'm sure that my wonderful habit caused it. I hope i am one of the lucky ones that didn't harm my baby but not everyone can be. as far as your question about the blood clots and bleeding--didn't have any problems like that--sorry

Smoking cigarettes never made me bleed, but you better speak with your OBGYN about this because this could cause a miscarriage. I have never heard of that before, but you definitely need to talk to your Doctor about this. I'll say a prayer for you, I know how hard it is to quit!

I dont want to sound like a bad mother, but I smoked during my whole pregnancy. I was bleeding like that till I was 5 months pregnant. The doctor told me that I should stop having sex with my husband (I was 3 months pregnant then). Well, when I was four months pregnant my husband and I had a very bad car accident and as a result he passed away, but I was still bleeding like that. Fact is, some people do that. My mother bled during her pregnancy with me. I honest dont know if smoking has anything to do with it because if it did I would have continued to bleed. My advice would be for you to go to the doctor and talk to them to make sure you arent doing anything to hurt yourself or your baby. Best of luck!

you are more likely to suffer a miscarriage. why are you so selfish ? You cant give up this ONE thing that already is hurting your child, more of a chance the child with have ADD, ADHD and behavioral problems.
I smoked for 15 yrs. the moment I found out I was pregnant, I quit and its been 3.5 yrs since I've touched one.
If you're this selfish now, I cant wait to see how selfish you'll be when the baby is born. Heres whatyou do. next time you are at the OBGYN, ask them if you can smoke while having an ultra sound and then you can see the babys heart stop for a moment then start again. I saw that on 20/20 once on women and smoking
go ahead and give me thumbs down, you are already abusing your child
why are you waiting for next week to quit, do it now

Quit before you harm your baby even more. And see a doctor.
Seriously what is more important to you, your ciggs or your baby?
BTW I am an ex smoker I quit the day I found out that I was pregnant with my first. Start learning how to knit.
Edit: Julie A I smoked for almost 10 yrs when my hubby got me pregnant. To me I had to make a choice continue to poison my unborn child or quit and have a healthier livestyle for both my child and I. It's not my fault the people that keep smoking are not as strong as the ones that did give up that nasty habit for their baby.
