Yep. Peace Officers used them effective up to the early part of the twentieth century. Back in the old days the Lawman would do what was called "buffaloing," which was hitting the badguy with the barrel over the head. The bad guy would come peacefully afterwards.
The Official Colt name for the pistol was the 1873 Army. It was also known as the Strap pistol

A gun is an inanimate object, so it cannot be a peacemaker. It is only the combination of the gun with the person who controls it that could be a peacemaker. A gun in the right hands is very definitely a peacemaker. But a gun in the wrong hands is anyone's worst nightmare.

Not exactly but I also don't consider hunting a sport. Once the animals get guns of their own then maybe a sport. I have a rather large stun gun - I call that a peacemaker or at a minimum time to get away from a bad situation.

Well, as bad as it may sound, if you shoot someone, is there not silence after they are dead? Therefore "peacemaker?" Sad but you know that was their thoughts about it. I don't agree though.
