One thing missing from the previous answer is that the paper weight is for one ream of a *full sheet* of paper, which is 17" x 22" and makes 4 reams of standard sized paper in the US. One sheet of standard printing-sized paper is 1/100 lb.

The way we talk about paper in the United States is amazingly convoluted. The short answer is that 500 sheets of bond paper with a size of 17" by 22" have a weight of 20 pounds. The manufacturer would cut a sheet that big into four letter-size sheets, so a 500-sheet ream of 20-pound bond paper weighs 5 pounds.

100 sheets weigh 1 pound. 1 Sheet weighs .16 ounces. 6.25 sheets per ounce.

Not an expert here, but I think 20 lbs refers to 2000 sheets, not 500. The weight of a single sheet at 500 sheets per, would be 0.64 oz. - way too much for a sheet of paper, by about a factor of 4.

A common sheet of 20 lb printer/copier paper weighs about 1/6 of an ounce, give or take. This means you can print all over about four (4) sheets, fold and place in a number 10 envelope, and mail first class with a single first class stamp.

It depends... Most printers would accept papers of weight 80 g per square meter, although 90g per square meter paper is also commonly used. Standard letter size paper is of dimensions 8.5 inches to 11 inches and if you do the conversions you see that the surface area for such a paper is just over 0.06 square meters. Thus if it is 80g/m2 paper than the weight of a single sheet of paper comes to 4.83 grams, if it is 90g/m2 paper than the answer is 5.43 grams. By the way some of the answers above which say 1/25 lb is off by about a factor of 4.
