Dogs. But the rewards are worth the effort. I have cats too but they just don't cut it like dogs.

I've had both - and both at the same time.
Naturally a cat will go in a litter box..and a dog you have to train. So the dog is harder at the beginning. Dogs have to be walked (cat's get their own exercise..lol) BUT cat's naturally need to scratch and claw..so your furniture can become a target...you will have to provide the cat with scratching posts and other kitty scratching things and train them to do that there and not on the furniture.
Different breeds of dogs need different attention and some are harder than others.
I think over-all a dog is harder - need to kennel them when you go away if you don't have anyone to care for them - and they are more expensive too. Both require time and love ...both are wonderful to own...I do think however a cat is a little easier to care for than a dog.

Cats are easier than dogs by far. You can leave them inside for several days if you go on vacation (with a lot of food and water and a litter box). With dogs you have to find someone to take care of them if you go away. Dogs pester you and pester you for attention far more than cats do and you have to take them out for walks even if you don't like the weather.

Start with a cat and get a dog later if you think you can handle it.

Well where some might say equal. Having 4 dogs and 2 cats. I'll have to say dogs!!!!

Exercising your cat doesn't mean you have to get up early to walk and make sure they do their business outside (not in a box or on your floors) before you go to work. Rain or Shine!

I have also never heard of obedience school for cats. Dogs do need training and time can't leave them alone all day.

If you don't want a lot of work. Get a Cat!

DOG.... I have 2 of them and 4 cats and I can honestly say the 2 dogs are far more work than all 4 cats combined. Both are equally loving and great friends though, and I love both.

DOGS! I have two dogs an American Eskimo and a Tea Cup Yorkie, one cat, one lizard and one frog. However, they may be harder to care for but they are the most loyal animal that anyone could ever hope to have. Just be careful when choosing a dog - Tea Cups are like newborn babies and need constant care (they even take up the entire bed). They get hurt easily and are not for people with small children. Be sure to look into your needs and match them to the animal that is best for your lifestyle.

Dogs are. They lick, they drool, they eat, they sniff, they bite, they're dirty. But they are really sweet and playful. Dogs are more fun.
Cats, they're easier to take care of then dogs. Cats clean themselves and they don't bother with people because they usually sleep during the day. Cats sometimes are very moody and are sensitive. Cats are less playful.
You need to walk dogs. No need to walk cats. Cats, they don't get lost. Dogs might.

I guess it really depends on what kind of dog you are thinking of getting. I'm sure some breeds are much easier to tend to than others. However, based on my own personal experience, I would have to say a dog is harder to take care of. I really do love our dog, but she constantly demands attention, she's too hyper, she chews on so many things, and she can really be a pain in the butt when she wants to. Our cats just want to eat and sleep, so it doesn't get much easier than that. Good luck with whichever pet you choose. :)

You have to clean up after both of them. Cats tend to be more independant. Dogs are easier to train. Cats do what they want when they want. They are both cute and cuddly. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I love them all.

I think a dog is harder mostly because you have to potty train them and teach them obey your commands whereas a cat could be easier. But a dog is really loyal and protective, but a cat isn't.

I would choose a dog that isn't highstrong, hyperactive, or violent and I think that would be a perfect match for you.
