Bush doesn't care about international law, the U.N, or the validity of his publicized reasons for going to war. He is Bush. He is the same guy we elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. His pattern of behavior has not changed. His stance on the issues have not changed (other than his reasons for war). Yet even Republicans are now are expecting him to act differently.

When are people going to learn that trying the same process over and over again and expecting different results is one definition of madness? If we don't like what Bush is doing now, TOO BAD! We should have not liked him in 2004.

Moral: When people get complacent, leaders start interpreting laws however they see fit. When you show support for their misinterpretations, they will keep doing it.

Why is it Americans think they have all the information and rush to judgement?

I do not interpret words the same way you do. Some people would consider spanking a child abuse where others would call it discipline. It is in those terms you should look at the definition of the word "torture." Some would consider listening to rap, country, heavy metal, or classical music torture. Take your pick.

GWB must have understood something to put it before the Congress of the United States to decide what the definition of torture means in the eyes and spirit of the Geneva Convention...which seems to be more than your implied interpretation of the situation.

Because he doesn't WANT to... He and Dick have whipping boy Alberto Gonzalaz around to justify via legal claims, any use of torture and/or breach of the Geneva Convention.

Oddly, Bush & Cheney may be brought up on war crimes over the waterboarding & other torture issues discovered by the Red Cross.

I can't wait for this pay per view!!!

In one of my very few defences of the President the people he is fightinging are not fighting under the Geneva convention. You are supposed to where uniforms to identify yourself from civilians. No one the US has fought have followed the Geneva convention since WWII.

President Bush, like many world leaders, recognizes that the Geneva Convention is not law. It is a convention agreed upon by nations to treat prisoners humanely, and to wage war in a more "humane" fashion.

Don't confuse torture with humiliating or making prisoners uncomfortable to coerce them to give up information. Real torture is something Saddam Hussein used to do; maiming and killing.

The U.S. doesn't torture prisoners. We keep them awake for days. We psychologically torment them. We take away their shoes on cold nights. We deprive them of their comforts. We make them want to give up information to get their comfort zones back.

But he has interpreted it - unfortunately, the way he interpreted it was wrong. And give him some credit, it took him just a little over 4 years to figure out all those big words.

Because he's an incompetent moron?

Speaking of violating the Geneva Convention, haven't we also violated it by showing Hussein on TV? I thought you couldn't show POW, which he really is.

Maybe Bush & Cheney will get their day of justice.

First the Geneva conventions are not US law, they are international treaties
Second, the Geneva conventions apply only to other signatories of the Geneva conventions...

Who knows. He & his cronies seem to be able to write laws
anyway they wish - esp. in a way to cover his butt for all
of his crimes.
What other countries do is a crime, but the United States is
supposed set examples for the rest of the world.
Look at how the rest of planet looks at us since bush.
Disturbing.

I'm surprised these imbeciles can even type. Bush isn't putting it before the Congress to be a good guy - he's doing it to cover his @ss. He's in the deep end and the water is almost up to his chin....
