You would need a new Motherboard for Dual Chips or Dual Core.

In general, a dual motherboard would use two identical processors, or the both would run at the slower speed.

Computers are not like TIRES on your car. Processor chips and RAM must be balanced. They are designed around very tight specifications.

re: two processors at same time ..
Yes, if the motherboard handles it. You will see two processor sockets if the motherboard handles two processors.

tyan sells some nice boards. then perhaps asus.
You can buy Dells and IBMs and HPs as well with two in them.

Also some people are getting excited about 2 dual core chips in the same box. or 4 dual cores in the same box. Wow!

re: which two chips.
They have to be same kind of chips .. you cannot mix a P4 with a Celeron D... and pref the chips are at the same "stepping" level -- a number written on the chip. So it is best if you can buy the two chips at the same time so that they will be same.

no you can't because there is only one slot for a processor. You would have to create a whole new circuit board for that. I think all a dual core does is split things up or something. I have no idea what it is, but I'm sure it's not the same as 2 processors running at the same time.

It pretty much depend on your motherboard whether it support it or not. Not only that, you must also make sure that both processors are of the same type and speed. Therefore in your case, since you have a P4 and a celeron, you can't use it in a dual processor motherboard. You must use either both P4 of the same speed or both celeron of the same speed not 1 P4 and 1 Celeron.

Your computer needs to have an architecture that supports multiple processors.

you have to have two sockets on the motherboard and the sockets have to support that processor

only if your motherboard had the slots for two, then you would have to make sure that they are compatible.

Not on home computers, I think.
