Because although it might be scary at the time we watch deep down inside we know. It's only a movie!
Or maybe it could happen for real.... then you pretend you're not scared but just in case, before you go to sleep, you make sure all the windows and doors are locked, you turn on all the lights and check every closets and off course under the bed. You hear every noise as you lay in bed and try to fall asleep and then all of a sudden, you hear something. A scratching noise somewhere in the house. Your heart stops. you sit, all ears and wait. Maybe it was nothing...you're holding your breath...you hear it again it's at your bedroom door!! you almost start crying. You remember the freak in the movie you just watch. You need to fight. You won't be one of those stupid chicks who can't move in horror movies...You hear scratching again but harder this time. OMG! you're freaking out. You see a shadow under the door. Your heart is about to jump out of your throat. You grab the emergency baseball bat behind the bedpost and slowly walk towards the door. Shaking, you grab the handle open the door and swing with everything you've got screaming aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! only to realize you had locked your cat outside.

It is the adrenaline we get from being scared, just like riding a ride at the fair, that gets your blood pumping and you just want to ride again. Me I like scary movies, the scarier the better... It gives you a natural rush, of excitement, and thinking/saying "no, don't go that way", me personally I thought The Grudge was scary, some may agree, some may not, but if you like scary movies this is the one to watch. Silent Hill was also a good one.

Why do we like watching action movies even if we know we are gonna be thrilled?
Why do we like watching comedy movies even if we know we are gonna be tickled?
Why do we like watching romantic movies even if we know we are gonna be swooned?
Cos' that's the magic of the movies, dear. We love to be entertained. Although we know we're gonna be frightened sh*tless, we love to watch horror movies again and again cos' we know the stuff that happens on the screen (hopefully) doesn't happen in real life. Yet, we still get shocked and scared out of our pants. It's the addictive adrenaline rush, as well as that eternal human hope that the protagonist will prevail against all odds in the end (or maybe not).

I personally like the tension in a scary movie. It is just so exciting. It is so much fun to be scared. I love it!

It feels good to purge out some fear. However most supposed scary movies rarely scare me anymore.

the terror that some people feel watching a scary movie, riding a rollercoaster releases endorphines into your body witch give you a kind of rush that can in some ways be addictive.

i dont know about you but i dont like to cause well for one thing i get scared really easily so i dont like to do or watch stuff that is too scarry especially rated r movies or anything that sounds too creepy and stuff. I guess it could be cause they are with their friends and thier friends want to watch the movie and not wanting to be too scared or whutever. i guess another reason could b for the thrills it gives them and they like the chills they get.

People like to be scared. It hits something deep inside of us.
Almost like Masochism in a sense. Its like we enjoy the "thrill" of it too.
Maybe its practice for us, for when we get scared in real life.

It's fun to be scared in a movie because we know its not real life. We're safe in a theater.
