okay my guinea pig is a new member of the family as of the 19th, but we arent bonding. i spend time with her every day just holding her and/or giving her a chance to run around, which she won't. now she has taken to wiggling around when she sits in my lap and shaking her head, but if i put her down she just hids near my legs or near a bigger object. I keep wondering if she has fleas or demons, but she hasnt been around any other animals and our other pets are flea free. she also keeps making a nervious laugh sound along with a weird chirpy sound. neither sounds very happy to me. but she alternates being quite and content with being jittery and loud. PLEASE HELP!!!!! im a very confused new owner.

i do pet on her a lot, but i will also just let her sit on me to get use to my smell and the different noises of my house. and i talk very softly to her and sing to her, some times this help and other times it doesnt. she will be quite and peaceful one moment then she gets very vocal and buries her head.

Guinea pigs are naturally very skittish creatures. When you go to try to pick them up the run even if you've had them for years. You have to remember that in the wild they are pray. They do hide to protect themselves. Your piggy is fairly new to you and its surroundings. It will take a few months to a year for your piggy to have a very close bond to you. What I would suggest to doing is sitting by the cage and talk to you piggy. Hand feed it treats and pet it in its cage. Don't worry your piggy isn't crazy or hates you.
Just spend time getting to know each other and your piggy will reward you with being affectionate to you.
I've hope I've helped you.

Well there are a few problems here. One, she was probably with other pigs in the pet store and now she is all alone. Guinea pigs are social creatures and should be kept in same-sex pairs. She has absolutely no idea how to relate to you and cannot even confer with her buddy. This was the mistake of the pet store, they should have told you this. I can tell you that this is my biggest pet peeve.
Next, I am guessing she is a baby pig. Baby pigs are high energy like human babies. They don't want to sit still. They want to know what it going on around them and because they are young, and because she is alone, she is more fearful, and so is more skittish. You will be dealing with issues like this until after she hits puberty. Once puberty hits (6-10 months old), her personality is going to change a bit and then she will mellow out and be the pig you always dreamed of. It would not be so difficult if she wasn't alone.
Another misnomer, people can only bond with babies... Horse puckey! Babies don't really care about people so much. They are intent on doing their own thing until about puberty and then they aren't sure what they want. When they hit 10-12 months old, they start thinking, hey, my human is not so bad, they love me, they feed me... I can dig this. I always always always recommend adopting older pigs, in the 10-12 month old range because that is what people are expecting of a pet. Pigs bond with who feeds them. Babies don't care. Again this is something they leave out at the pet store.
Had she had a buddy, it would make life on you both easier. Right now the only thing is persistence and I would feed her treats outside of her cage. Once she starts associating you with deliciousness, things may improve more quickly.
Best of luck and keep working with the little darling.

The mounting is exhibiting he's the boss of he cage, the tooth chatting on the different hand isn't as sturdy a demonstration and would grow to be a concern, he's asserting stay away form me. try the introductions interior the bathing room for a small quantity of time for the 1st day then boost it each and daily increasing it to quite a few hours with shared nutrition and water bowels. on the day you attempt to place them jointly interior the cage back wash the cage out will with vinegar in water so it has a sparkling scent and would not scent like quite a few ones territory to guard.

My guinea pigs (both boys) are just like that, but I love to take care of them anyway....I don't pick them up anymore, because I thought, if they hate being handled so much, then I should quit doing it. They are separated by a grate...which enables them to smell and talk to each other. They look very healthy and happy to me...and that's what counts.

She is being a normal g.p. They are nervous creatures, and it will take several weeks of gentle handling to teach her not to be afraid. Have lots of patience. Try feeding her a special treat when you hold her. And don't forget to give her Vitamin C supplementation!
