Your tasting the metal the beer is in. When you pour it into a glass you remove the beer from the can removing the taste of the tin. Plus your allowing the true taste of the beer to come out with pouring it. That just sounded weird but didn't know how else to explain it.

I have had this happen many times, especially in the days when I used to drink cheap beer. Olympia brand beer, made in Tumwater, Washington, used to taste terrible in the can, but poured in the glass, it was quite drinkable. I always figured that the aluminum in the can didn't get along with the beer.

Yes I have. It's always like the 1st beer isn't that good. I always put it in a glass or get bottled beer. I can smell the can or something ....lol

I don't know. I'm sure it's a mental thing. Maybe seeing it foam in the glass seems to make it better? Maybe it's the oxygen getting to the beer. Maybe the aluminum of the can adds to the bitterness? Good question!

Beer always tastes better in a glass. It releases the aroma, and doesn't have the taste of the metal.
