I am a piano teacher, and my work requires close contact with children, lots of whom have infections, strep throats and or colds. I used to come down with every sickness around, until I learned the best secret to preventing sickness.
REALLY - this absolutely works! The absolute best way to ward off a sore throat/cold/flu is mega doses of vitamin C combined with lots of sleep.
Take about 2000 mg. of vitamin C every 2 hours. (I like the chewable tablets.) If you happen to get loose bowels,(I never did), back the amount off just a little. Along with this, you need to sleep as much as you can. Together, this works about 90 percent of the time to get rid of the sore throat and restore you to perfect health.
If you want to, as an additional treatment, you can also gargle with warm salt water, although that is not necessary.

Depending on what is causing the sore throat, I always start with a good gargle with a good quality mouthwash. If the sore throat is the precursor of a cold, then nine times out of ten, the mouthwash stops it right there and the cold never develops. If your sore throat is something more than a cold virus, then the mouthwash trick might not work. Also, if I let the sore throat go too long before using the mouthwash, then the trick doesn't work. I have to catch it right away.
Good luck

Viral infections are the most common source of sore throats in young children. These include colds, influenza, measles, mumps, chickenpox, croup and mononucleosis.
Bacterial infections also can lead to sore throats. These include strep throat, tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils located at the back of each side of the mouth) and diphtheria (respiratory disease that causes breathing difficulties and painful swallowing).
Have your doctor perform a "rapid betastreap" teat. I test is positive he/he wil prescribe antibiotics. Durinfg the treatment period gargle with some salt water (about 9.5% saline) and feel better.

The best thing to do for a sore throat is to gargle warm salt water.Do this at least three times a day.The warmer the water the better it feels.Use at least 8oz. of water and 21/2 tablespoons of salt each time. Also look at the back of your throat and see if you see white streaks. If you do you have an infection.Of course you will need antibiotics.Hope you feel better.

Gargling salt water and taking Tylenol or aspirin. Drinking tea will work, too. You might want to drink lots of water.

I find the warm salt-water gargle and some ibuprofen to be most effective.

Tylenol has helped me before. Ice cream takes he edge off while you are waiting for the tylenol to kick in.

Swallow a tsp of minced garlic, and gargle with white vinegar. See a Doc if it's bad.
