I don't suppose you good people who support torturing suspects can state how you know for certain the information you are getting is ...reliable.
People sign false confessions and admit to anything under duress. Remember the show trials of Stalinist Russia in the 30s.
Not one of you pro - medieval torture inquisitor supporters has a shred of evidence to show torture provides a benefit. It does indicate how barbaric you are.

Jack,

Coercive methods are still torture. Any evidence gained from some one under duress is not valid.
A little bit of torture is still torture.

I agree... studies have proved that torture does not work.

The ppl saying this are usually neanderthals whose answer for everything is brut force and violence.

Torture or even physical pressure can give you the information you need when you KNOW the suspect knows something. Then they can go verify it and it becomes valuable inteligence. For instance, a girl was kidnapped in Florida. Police had captured one of the kidnappers and beat the location out of him. Therefore, they were able to save the little girl from the kidnappers.

However torture and physical pressure do fall short when youre not sure if you have the right man because the weak will say anything to end it and the strong will resist it.

It is not reliable. It has been proven to be a false tactic and usually ends up in the death or extreme injury to the victim.

Say you were to torture someone who was truly involved with planting a bomb. Would this truly convicted person give up their plans? No, they would rather die than stop the bomb. Ergo, the torture would be without purpose.

Now say you were to torture someone who was truly innocent. This poor person would NOT be able to stand much pain and would consistantly deny involvement. The torturers would keep pressing more and more until one of two things happens. Either they make up a confession to stop the torture, or they die from the torture. (John Yoo White House general counsel memo: Torturing children in front of their parents, crushing testicles if necessary). So either the person dies, or you now get a patsy to parade in front of the news cameras as justification for tyrannical things like the unPatriot Act and unPatriot Act II (yet to be passed, just wait til after the next attack) and you also get fake static intel in the system clogging real investigations and cluttering the real terror chatter.

Fact: Governments use fear to control populations. Watch this free video and see how: http://infowars.com/terrorstorm/google_high_quality.htm

P.S. "Coercive methods" are torture just under a different name. (The White House is calling torture "pressure" now). Playing loud music and sleep depriviation are the EXACT methods used by Dr. Ewen Cameron in the CIA led MKULTRA mind control experiments. Watch this video and tell me it's not torture: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2170179782473899518&q=mk+ultra&hl=en

Torture can make most people say whatever you want to hear wither it is true or not. But torture will not work with these people because it is an honor to die for their beliefs and get all those virgins. So why do it and risk the treatment our guys will get from them when they are captured. Lets be bigger and better.

That is why torture and coersion is used. Sometimes we already have a good or moderate source of intelligence that we need to confirm through other sources.

If we know the answer and can't torture someone into revealing it...then it may not be true. I am not a believer in cutting off someones fingers and toes until they start talking, or whipping them...etc.

I am not opposed to making people uncomfortable....lack of sleep, food, comforts of home (TV, radio, information). I'm not even opposed to making them wear womens panties on their heads and making them pose for pictures.

Well, that's why torture is NOT reliable. But COERCIVE methods are, which are NOT torture. Playing loud music, sleep deprivation, etc., are not torture.

Well they do. They say a bunch of B.S. Either we "torture"(give them a safe place to sleep, food and clothing) them and get real answers that can lead to capturing dangerous people or plans to attack innocent peopl like yourself or we can ask nicely and let them go once they say somthing. Keep in mind these people blow themselves up. They don't just give away information

As did Mr. Arar of Ottawa Canada who spent over a year being tortured in a "secret" CIA Prison in Syria ... who was later found to be innocent.

It's worked for several thousand years - nice to know you're the first one in history who won't cave after hours of torture.

The idea is "by any means neccesary". Too bad torture doesn't fall under that category.
