I have a 99 Ford Ranger with a 4cyl engine auto transmission, and a totaled 01 Chevy blazer with a 4.3l vortec v-6, auto trans, can I take the engine and transmission from the blazer and install it in the Ranger?

You are looking at a potential "bag of worms" in these late cars with computerized systems, you are going to have to change the computer system to the other engine (hard but not impossible).
Also you are going to have to have an adapter plate to make transmission match engine (transmissions are different between Ford andChev), or you can swap engine and transmission as a unit, - then you are going to have to modify all the mounting points. Then you will have to adapt the driveshaft because the "plugins" for driveshaft yokes is different, -(probably have to weld gm yoke onto ford driveshaft (to match rear axle - or vise-versa). Your radiator hookup points will probably be wrong, so need to adapt,- your transmission oil cooler will be different, so you will prpbably have to "graft" connections to match one end or the other. You are going to have to change mounting of PS pump to match chev engine, - or somehow adapt PS hoses to hook up the gm pump,- (low pressure side fairly easy, high pressure side not!) If you are using a/c, you need different mounts to adapt ford compressor to fit chev engine, or you have to adapt connections between referigeration lines and compressor. Alternator wil prabably be simplest changes, as you will only have to adapt hookup connections on alternator to match new one (at least gm & ford make same kind of electricituy!) Throttle linkages and tansmission linkages will be different, so you have to adapt them too!

Back up 10 - 15 years, and everything is a whole lot easier!

My brother used to say "I have two wrenches that will make anything fit. One throws a long blue flame and the other sparks a lot".

Physically you can get the v6 into the Ford engine compartment but the electronics are not compatible. You also must move the engine wiring harness and engine sensors, including computers, from the Chevy to the Ford. You are not looking at an easy task.

Sure, anything is possible. You will need the computer and accessories from the Chevy engine. You will also have to make sure the engine will even fit into the engine bay. You may need to make new engine mounts or if your lucky there maybe some engine swap kits you can buy. You will also have to do the plumbing(fuel, water) and may have to swap that radiator if the ford radiator is too small. You may also have to change the driveshaft if the doner trans is longer or shorter.

Measure the height of the 4.3 and check that against the top of you ranger cross members. Clearance is going to be your biggest issue and fabricating motor mounts and weather or not the exhaust will clear the firewall, depth of clearance for the radiator and fan are important also. I'm sure it can be done if you have the tools and the confidence. Yanking the wiring harness is really the least of your issues. wires are very flexible and can be run just about any where.

it may fit, but you would have to change so much stuff that it is not worth the trouble. you would have to check how much clearance room you have, if the motor mounts will have to be relocated, and if the transmission will bolt up to the engine. if you changed motor and trans, then you would have to make sure the drive shaft will match up.

If you have a cutting torch, a welder, and some brains, you can make it happen. Is it worth the effort? Probably not. Way too many obstacles to overcome.

Sure! The only downfall nowadays is the wiring for the computers!
