Here's how it works:

1. The sun sends energy via light into the Earth's atmosphere.
2. Some of the light is absorbed by Greenhouse Gasses in the atmosphere, and stored as energy (this is the Greenhouse Effect in action).
3. The rest of the light is either absorbed by other things, or reflected back towards space.
4. While going back towards space, more of the light is absorbed by greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.
5. The remaining light finally leaves the atmosphere and goes into space.

So greenhouse gasses absorb heat and prevent the same amount of heat that enters the atmosphere from exiting the atmosphere (which is essentially what causes global warming).

Hope this answers your question :)

They prevent heat from the Sun from leaving the Earth's atmosphere. The more greenhouse gases, the more heat gets trapped.

the sun goes thru the greenhouse windows and stays inside........they are saying that the gasses are acting like windows and trapping the heat of the earth.............
