Since you said any genre - "The Prince of Tides" - Pat Conroy - was a great book. I'm reading "Lost Souls" by Michael Collins right now - very good.

Well, if you're down with existentialism, I'd suggest "Homo Faber" by Max Frisch.
But the last book I read that I truely enjoyed was "Prey" by Michael Crichton.
