I personally remember doing this until I got headaches, intense headaches! I was very stressed and me pulling my hair was just as if someone else would bite their nails. Years later here I am normal as can be. I had no treatment, took no medication, and no I am not obsessive compulsive. Still, 8 years later if I have a bad day, at night I lay on the couch and run my fingers through my hair...pulling hair out when I get to knots. I admit, it feels good. Some people bite nails, some people even cut their arms. There are both realms of the spectrum! Everyone is different. Everyone needs to have a way of release! Pull away. Whatever makes you feel better. I'm sure you're not bleeding and I'm sure you're not bald! If you see a shiny spot or blood, you may wanna find a very close friend to talk to. Or chew gum or rip paper or something...I dunno. I don't think you have OCD! I think you're just as fine as can be....oh yeah.....I was in my teen years and going through tough stuff when I pulled hair like crazy. Are you 15 by any chance? Just a thought.

Good luck.............and remember - you're not the only one.

Obsessive Compulsive Behaviors. Sadly, I fall under this category. I'm not insane about pulling out my hairs, but I do every once in awhile get out the tweezers and pull hair out of my legs, arms, etc. I guess I do this because of my obsessive need for perfection and I think hair is imperfect.

Like cutting, it is a form of self-injurious behavior. Stress, anxiety, anger, guilt - all probably play a role. My kid sister eventually outgrew it, but that was back in the day when it probably wasn't even recognized as a disorder. There's a fancy name for it now, begins with a "T", I can't remember what it's called.

It's a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. The person feels a compulsion to pull their hair out. It's called trichotillamania - it's can go from someone who occassionally pulls out clumps of hair to someone who pulls out their hair to the point where they are almost bald.

When I get bored I'll pluck 1 or 2 hairs.
However, I have never pulled out 'clumps.'

My German teacher was very troubled because I would pluck out a few hairs in her class.
She probably thought I was nuts.

For me it's stress and anger. I pull my hair out in clumps when I get under a lot of presure because of stress or I'm so angry, I have trouble expressing my anger verbally.

its the trich! trichotillomania. pull then chew the ends. its a psych issue, it becomes a source of comfort and self soothing under stress, like smoking.
