It seems when i logg on msn my color quality automaticly changes to 8 bit from 32 and i dont know why. Do I have it on the wrong setting? Or worse is it a virus? It only happens when i go to a website that belongs to msn.

That's really weird. I have no explanation except to note that resolution is not the same as color depth. Depending on a person's eyesight and how close they sit to their monitor, 1024x768 seems like the middle ground for most people with 17" screens. You might like a lower resolution like 800x600, or a higher one like 1280x1024. Note that 800x600 is realy too low for general net use these days.

This assumes you are talking about a standard, squarish screen. A 17" widescreen would likely be best at a higher resolution than stated.

On to your real question. 16 bit color is the lowest you should use these days, and most video cards are fine at 32 bit. But why yours would be switching is a mystery.

1024 x at least 800.
if it is a flat panel, 1024 x at least 900 with 500:1 contrast, and wide screen (I like WS).
