There is no industry standard sound for each. You may become familar the differences in your neighborhood but it will not necesarily apply for another community.

There is no regulation on what sound a siren must have (well...what kind and brand). It changes from area to area. Where I live the ambulances have a 2 sirens so there are two distinct sounds, while the police have one, and the fire department uses those air raid type sirens. Just listen to the differences and you will figure it out in time. The only reason I know is because I work on an ambulance.

The ambulance siren is the one on the big white and red/orange truck that says ambulance on the side. The police siren is the one on the blue and white vehicle with armed personel inside. Just pull to the right either way.

sure. I pay attention all of them common anyhow. it rather is tough to no longer distinguish the sounds aside whilst the sirens are blasting by using your window. it rather is like "WOOOOOO!" "Oh, yet another hearth."
