My son has also joined the Marines, and he is determined to go to Iraq. I think it all depends on your MOS. You don't want to go before you are properly trained, so get in as much as you can while you have the chance. Good luck, and be safe.

Sorry i can't answer your? my son is in the Marines. He just came back from Calif. He requested our hometown because my husband and i are both in bad health. I would guess that you can request iraq after boot camp. His friend wanted Japan and got it. Good Luck and Thank-You for protecting your country.

If you take 0311 once you get done with boot camp and AIT and get assigned to your unit you'll be right there on their next deployment.
