I teach at two community colleges as a "part time" faculty member. If you are a full time tenure teacher, you make a good living. (Not great, but good. You make more as a high school teacher.) Most of the teachers, however, are part timers and need to work at several colleges in order to make enough to live on. (Our nickname is "Freeway Flyer.") As a "Freeway Flyer," you also do not have a guarantee of employment. Therefore, from one semester to another, we do not know what class we will teach. So...we just deal with it. Anyway, good teachers don't teach for the money ...we just love sharing our knowledge with others.
BTW, I also worked at a Cal State as well. Same treatment, same pay.

Not much at all. I mean it's really not much at all. One professor of mine at a community college said it wasn't even worth it to teach but he did it because he loved to.

I'm at a state university and I get $3000 per class. However, community colleges pay substantially less, since there are no Ph.D. requirements and folks aren't even required to have a masters in many cases.
