They are good for the money and decent on gas. You will run through tires cuz they are small size, and they are pretty weak in a crash so insurance rate may be higher than you think, better check.

i have a 95 metro. it gets great mileage. mine gets anywhere from 35-38 mpg. but since the tank is teeny weeny (gas is currently 2.09 per gallon and it only takes 15 to fill mine completely), i have to fill it 3 or 4 times a week.
also, the sensors are often bad. my check engine light goes on and off sporadically. unfortunately, this last time it was on, it was for real. and my car crapped out on me today on the way to work. don't know what's wrong w/ it, but i'm having my mechanic come look at it either today or tomorrow.
from what i've heard from other people, they're a good starter car. and a good car to have if you can't afford anything better. but if you can, then get something better.

They were. I would not buy a used one without a thorough inspection by a qualified Ase Mechanic or GM dealer. These were essentially a disposable car. Internal engine parts are hard to find. These are more expensive than other small style car because of low production numbers. It was manufactured by Suzuki for GM. The 3 Clyinder engines were slow and maintenance cost is high.
