Leaping Lanny Poffo was one of the first acrobatic wrestlers in the World Wrestling Federation in the mid-1980's. He is the brother of former World Wrestling Federation Champion, Randy "Macho Man" Savage. On an otherwise dull Saturday morning show that had nothing but squash matches, Leaping Lanny (and Piper's Pit) made the show watchable. It looked like at one time the team of Lanny Poffo and George Wells was bound to be tag-team champions, then things fizzled. Lanny Poffo would team with a jobber, and the jobber would get pinned. Later Lanny Poffo would get pinned. He did surface with "The Genius" gimmick, but he lost his matches. Who got mad at him, or how did he fall from grace such that he never gained the notariety he deserved?

I had read somewhere that he did not want to change the "Leaping" part of his wrestling for some other gimick and change of style. He was a main draw in the Birmingham area in the 70's and 80's.

Good question...
I was thinking about him earlier in the week.
Probably because he was so skinny; his brother 'roided up and had that annoying voice.
Still, being attached to Mr. Perfect, the greatest WWF wrestler ever, is much better than being teamed with Hulk Hogan or Zeus.

he was labeled in the mid '80's "as one of the most prominant jobbers in the wwf". i guess with a label like that----it's really hard to come back from it.

He wasn't a draw, and, unfortunately, that's what matters. How much money you make is way more important than any talent you may or may not actually possess. Vince McMahon wouldn't know talent if it bit him.
