Only people with kids answer this please.....if a private school would establish connections for life, that would create a lifelong support for your child in his career and
elsewhere, would you make that sacrifice(private school)?
Not talking a run of the mill catholic type parochial school.
I'm talking a boarding school with headmasters and such, and only if it was in your means, but barely. I would imagine the vast majority of folks would be hardpressed
just to afford the real estate taxes that would bring them
in their local metro areas finest suburban school district.
If this boarding school connection would set your child up for life, and you had to make a huge, but doable sacrifice
to send your child there, would you do it?

The above is the type school I have in mind. I would imagine most middle-class soccum mums would be too
amber-alert worried to send their baby away, even though
he'd be set. The rich obviously don't mind!

I could never understand the mentality of
sending a kid away to boarding school myself. Teen-agers can be very hard to deal with, but those are precious years indeed to have them around. To see their
first loves, attend their sporting events, etc.
is priceless. We have to remember, however, that the rich are removed from a lot of the stresses that most others deal with. Not only are they set for life and have no financial worries, and live in the safest areas, but they have nannys, maids, and such to deal with the stresses working folks, including the middle-class, have to deal with on a daily basis. Even people most people
would consider very well off have to pick their own kids up from school and events.
Your kid may not establish connections for life from boarding school, but how many
kids are going to be world movers and shakers? That's why they call it the elite.
The rest of the parents drive kids to school
and deal with the daily crap of kids, but
who said life is fair?

BTW, for the curious, private prep school cost about 25-40 thousand a year, depending on the school. They also give a
VERY small handfull of scholarships, which is why you see a few black kids in the pictures there.

I wouldn't send my kids to a boarding school. What's the point in having kids if you're going to send them away? You can be just as successful going to a public school.....seriously. Look at Oprah....she went to public schools even for college. Some things are more important than being rich. Having money is great, but not with the sacrifice that that would be.

I wouldn't send my kids to a boarding class. I couldn't image anyone doing that. I would be more worried. I like to know where my kids are at and give them a hug each day and see their smiles. I like it when they tell me they love me first. I would probably go crazy. If something happened while they are away I would blame it on myself for sending them in the first place. Send them to a normal school or a private school close to where you live. If I could afford it I rather send my kids to a private school. Hope this helps. God Bless.

yes! yes! yes!

Private school such as what you are suggesting not only give the student excellent educations and give the student a sense of purpose and many many more benifits- it also establishes in the mind of the student that the parent is willing to invest in their future and gives them a sense of self worth and helps them know that the parent believes in them. Many students that go to these types of schools understand the sacrifice it is to their parents and a deeper bond grows between the parent and their child, and the student often feels empowered to excel, knowing their parents believe in them. Yes I would definitely do it.
