I've had a horrible experience with a local business. I'd like to post complaints about the business online in as many places as possible to help keep other people from having the same experience. I've found a few places to post a listing (citysearch.com actually had another customer who had posted a complaint and had had the exact same problem with the company, so it's apparently a common business practice). I'd like to hear as many suggestions as possible for the best ways to really voice a complaint and get it heard by as many people as possible. I'm out over $500 and have yet to receive any product at all, am being denied a refund and apparently it's something they do all the time!!! Help me come up with ways to warn others! (I live in Tampa, by the way, and it's a local business).

Thanks!!!

In response to some answers: I've already started the process with the BBB. Also am posting to citysearch.com, yahoo!local.com, and superpages.com. I'd like to do something though to have a loud voice whether I'm able to resolve with the BBB or not. Just letting everyone know that it's a horrible place to buy from could be more powerful than a drawn out legal problem that costs me $ and doesn't get the company any negative publicity.

Yes, the B.B.B. Then, the State Attorney General's Office, Listed in the Phone Book, Next, Write a Letter to the Editor of a Prominent Local Newspaper. Read Other Similar Letters to get an Idea how to Compose Yours for the Most "Impact" without going Overboard. Finally, Contact Your Local TV News Broadcasts, and find out if You can Enlist the Services of an "Eyewitness News Troubleshooter". Just make sure You have all of the Needed Documentation, Names, Dates, and Witnesses to Make Your Case. The best Part is that this should Cost Little to Nothing, and You should get Results ! Hope this Helps !

Id sugguest posting a question on here in Yahoo Answeres more directed towards the business in question. Doing yahoo serches people will come across it and read about yours and others experiances with the said Company. Id also do a google surch of the business's name and use the compaines name and blog in the serch bar, or the type of business and blog after it.

Examples: Acme blog
or: Cartoon equipment blog

Doing a serch for this blogging sight you can vent and get your information out there. I do a lot of serches befor i spend 100 or more on a product or service.

There is a website called the RIP-OFF Report. You can always post your comaplint there, especially if the business that shafted you is a national franchise, you will be able to draw attention from all over the country.

This site is great if your activity involves a large, national company or vendor - eg., a move across country, home construction, even motor car repair. For example, I was considering a job, then found out from this website that it was a very bad employer, so saved me a bad experience.

I'd say contact your local city business license department.
Have the name of the business or the owner's name.

Tell them your experience, if you keep up the persistence & sincerity that business might get what it deserves for its unfair practices. They might be a great resource to finding where you can post a complaint most effectively.

Best Wishes

Depends on what kind of products you bought. If it is a local business, you should be able to get the local laws handle it. If you are out "$500.00" > then, the local laws certainly can do something about it. If you have all the documentation on hand, regarding to the items you bought, this is your proof.

I'd recommend you told the immediate businesses ajacent to the business you're complaining about. They wouldn't be so keen to promote them next time, after hearing of your experience.

Contact their suppliers (based on the products they sell you could tell).

Tell 20 people you know personally, of your bad experience.
