First, decide on something you feel really deeply about. Your
pet(s), school, homework,parents,siblings,etc.. Then write
down what you feel about the subject you have chosen.
Likes, dislikes, and then put your thoughts into sentences.
Fix the spelling and then re-read your sentences. Are there some
words you can replace with better words? Can you add some adjectives, adverbs to your sentences? Before you know it
you will have a poem. A poem usually expresses a single
thought or idea. Don't clutter up your poem with more than 1
idea. Then your poem will turn into a story rather than a poem.
Hope this helps.

It is best not to use one that is not yours, to get one off the net is plagerism. Poetry is an emotional response to something, be it happy or sad. Think of a topic that interests you and just write words that you feel inside. I like to write about rain as I am fascinated by it. I can listen to it for hours, infact it is pouring down right now and I am covered in goose pimples!
It doesn't need to be complex either. What makes you tick? What makes you angry?

I once had a friend
who liked to eat dirt
It got in his hair
and on the front of his shirt

He wouldn't eat veggies
or pasta or meat
The mud on his shoes
was his favorite treat

He ate it for breakfast
for dinner, and lunch
Sometimes he added bugs
to give it extra crunch

There's a spectacular poet called Whitney Hales on poetry.com...she is amazing! Plus, I feel connected to her 'cuz we have the same first name.
Go get inspired by Whitney Hales (just plain Whitney Hales...not Whitney K. Hales!)
