Someone got my password and so now I have another account. I just need to shut down the other one.

You cannot shut down your Yahoo email, but you can change your password.
Do not use MY ACCOUNT, (up there, next to the word "sign out"). Type your user ID, say forget PW, Yahoo will send the temporary PW to the primary email account you entered when you first opened the account with Yahoo. I hope they do not have the PW of that primary account.
Use that PW to get back to your Yahoo email, then change the PW.

Just stop using it. If some of your friends got that address, be sure to tell them to use your current account.
In a couple of months, Yahoo will automatically delete it.

You can't, you can only abandon it and create a new one. I tried several years ago and Yahoo told me just to create a new account and abandon the old one.

To have your Yahoo! ID and/or Yahoo! Mail account deleted, simply submit a request here: https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user

I don't think you can, just leave it alone and it will close on its own.
