I agree with you. People do need to get over it, but you are only 16. At that age you really haven't experienced a whole lot.

I am 7 years older than you and I can say that when I was 16 I hadn't experienced racism worth shouting about either. I ignored it.

That was until I started to get racism I couldn't ignore. I got it from people in authority. I had one teacher who would claim that I wasn't smart enough to have submitted the work I did for school. She drafted nine aides to work for almost two weeks at trying to find the "real" author of my paper because she didn't believe my black mind could write it. After several conferences in which she was proven wrong, she had to give me my grade. But not before she told me she clearly didn't think I wrote it.

I had another teacher who literally tried to harass me out of the school's music program. He would target black students and do his best to get them to quit. He succeeded in getting all the other black students to quit, but I was too smart for him. I teamed up with some of the white students who saw what he was doing and we gathered such crystal clear evidence of his misbehavior that he literally thanked me for his job when we confronted him with it.

This wasn't in 1950. This was only a few years ago. I could give you more examples, but the moral here is that you simply haven't lived long enough to see real racism. And by God, I hope you live long and continue not to see it.

I don't know anything about the previous posts you're referring to, but I imagine a lot of young folks your age feel the same way you do. Many of them seem to think that racism is a thing of the past. Obviously, it isn't tho, if one pays even the slightest attention to the news. Sure, we aren't having to witness anything like the events of the civil rights movement, and the KKK isn't as out there as they used to be. However, the KKK is still around, then there's the people that call themselves Aryans too. There's also still plenty of narrow-minded individuals that don't claim any group, but they still label people they see based only on what they see.

Even today, there are still instances of people getting or not getting a job, apartment, good customer service, etc., based on their race. It's not as common or as "in your face" as in the 60's, but it does still happen. Also, ever notice how in some areas, there's a difference in the response from a community and the media if a caucasian girl is kidnapped or sexually assaulted as opposed to a child of color? Or if a violent crime is committed by a black person rather than a white person?

Statistically, I think I heard recently that something like 9 of every 10 men in prison are black. I'm sure that in many cases, they are there for the right reasons. However, I'm also sure that in some cases, there are still some that are wrongly prosecuted because some detective or prosecutor doesn't like people of other races, and saw to it that they were the only suspect, they were pressed into confessing or a plea bargain, and that the evidence was a custom-fit. I'm not a cynical person, but tho the statue of the lady known as "Justice" is blindfolded, I've seen how there are still many people in our justice system that are not.

It's not all about whites against blacks these days too. Did you hear stories after 9/11 about Middle Eastern people being attacked and even killed? I heard stories of such attacks on people of Pakistani, Arab, Indian, and Iranian descent. I also heard of attacks on people of other dark-skinned races, NOT from the Middle East, who were attacked by morons who THOUGHT they were from the Middle East. Mind you, at least some of these victims were from families that have been U.S. citizens for 2, 3, or more generations. But all the attackers saw was skin color.

Sadly, racism isn't gone. No telling if it ever will be, there are ignorant, intolerant people everywhere in every country in every generation. Maybe your generation will make further progress on this problem, but to fix a problem, they need to be aware that it still exists. Unfortunately, hon, some people still only see skin color, and judge a person on that before anything else. Glad to hear that's not you... one down, a few hundred thousand to go. :)

I think that you have a refreshing view about our society and where it can go in the future, so long as more young people have the same view as you.

There are still some people who, even today who are racist. Racism exists in all societies - no one is immune.

With this in mind, let us all be sure not to blame good people for the actions of others.

Sweetie, I fully agree with you on this and in agreement with the other posts that are also. But I will repeat one of the posts. I know you like typing in caps, but on the internet that indicates that you're yelling, even though you're not, and that's not acceptable.

Evidently your parents raised a good kid with good values. Never let them go.

You must be new, can I offer you some advice:

Don't post questions in response to what other people answered on your previous question, because in this question no one knows what the heck you're talking about. Just give the person who gave you a stupid answer a thumbs down or give them a piece of your mind in the additional details, that's what I do.

People do need to get over racism. It's stupid and unfair and there is no actual point to it, except some people think they're better than others. For most racists, it's how they were brought up.

I personally do not have a problem with a person who wants to say they opinion regarding racism however, when it comes to talking about different ethnic groups and making sarcastic remarks that I have a problem with.

It sounds to me like you have a very sensible take on the whole thing, but because it is such a touchy subject just bringing it up here will bring some very strong responses.

i'm no longer mad about it. i'm really unhappy about it. no longer because he's black yet because he's a racist. i'm a lot less unhappy than i ought to were if McCain had received, i wager. i truly won't be able to stand both.
