My boss had said he wanted everyone to stay to a certain time, but I clocked out an hour early, which is what I was scheduled to. Other people left at this time, and each of us was first questioned by our boss. He's in front of the door, holding it mostly closed, physically blocking the way out. He asked why I was leaving and if I could stay longer several times before letting me through. He's done something similar to this before. How do I deal with that?

He wanted people to stay because there was more work to do. I didn't stay because of school, which is the reason I gave him.

Actually, that's a physical threat. I'd just change jobs. The boss is using his position to intimidate and actually should be reported to corporate (if this place is a chain operation).

Look here, girl - just because he is your boss, you don't have to let him act any way he wants to. You tell him, 'Excuse me, but my schedule is already planned out, and I clock out when it says to, so if you will kindly move, I have a life other than here.' I lost more jobs by getting mad and telling bosses where to shove it!

You should check the labour laws in your city and see what rights you have. Are you part of a union? If so, check to see what your options are with your union. It's difficult to advise you because I don't know where you live or what time of job you have.

Find another job. Unless he pays for overtime, no one should stay. He could be fined for holding people against their will.

I would advise changing jobs, but when he does that again you could ask him why he is sexually harassing you. Bet the door opens then.

Why did he want everyone to stay late. An important project that could cause the company to close if it wasn't done? I think you were unreasonable.
