If you like the workout then great, but unless you're joining the circus, it's a complete waste of time. What does it matter if you can lift a girl above yourself?

(And I've ruled out that male cheerleader just want to be around girls. It has something to do with gymnastics.)

Well it seems a lot more fun for the girls than the guys. They only lift girls up and do cartwheels.

Did it ever occur to you that guys might do it because it's fun and athletic??? That maybe they also dance and do gymnastics? Why be so mean? It's great aerobic exercise and you get experience performing in front of large crowds. Something I bet you would not be able to do. lol

ADDITIONAL: As to your added comments, you have obviously not watched much cheer leading on a professional and college level lol. The men do a heck of a lot more than lift women up and do cartwheels lol. They do tumbling, dance moves, all kinds of things. And if they did not enjoy it, they obviously would not be doing it! lol

Male cheerleaders help out the team because other girls would probably have a hard time lifting each other up. I'm sure some of them really do join just to be around the girls, and others probably join because there are no gymnastic teams in high school/college. It will look good on college applications and may even get them into the college they want to get into.

Maybe they exist to help the people in the stand get a better look at the female cheerleaders. (When they pick them up)

I really when the girls do the high air tricks and you need men to help support those stunts. Other girls simply aren't strong enough.

The male cheerleaders I've known have been athletes in other sports and considered cheerleading a season off while still staying in good condition.

Actually its a two fold answer. These cheerleaders are great athletes and can do some amazing things with tumbling and jumping and so forth. They do need support in helping them do their thing and additional support is helpfull, men are usually stronger in frame and can support the women as well as catch them and be a great support when they build those paramids, but its also plays a moral role as well in showing that support is needed for school spirit from both men and women athletes and the students too,
