I think the reason behind this would be to bring attention to the quirkyness of the actual word Albuquerque. It put Albuquerque on the map for people all over the world - or at least to those who watched the Disney character.

Hey, I've been to Albuquerque and their sign system leaves a lot to be desired! You're so busy trying to avoid the speed traps and the orange barrels that it's hard enough reading the signs that are up and haven't been covered in graffiti but, then, the signs aren't always necessarily very big or easy to read.
And, of course, the Sandia Mountains are so pretty, maybe he got distracted?

If he had taken that left toin at Albaquoiquee, he would have missed out on a classic opportunity to get into trouble, and then ingeniously get himself out again. This, as we know, is bread and butter to Bugs--his sole reason for being.
