first off, i'm 20 years old. my breats are a 38dd, and while that isn't insanely huge, i feel like they're causing a lot of problems for me. my back constantly hurts, and the size of my breasts has caused what is becoming a more significant curvature of my spine. my large breasts make is very hard to do any sort of cardio excersize, because of the pain they cause me, and because of it, i can no longer do things i enjoyed when i was younger, like running cross country or dance classes.

my mother had the same procedure done a few years ago, and her insurance covered all of the surgery, but mine are quite a bit smaller than hers (38f). what are my chances of being able to have this done fairly inexpensively (if not completely free)? i'm willing to petition my insurance company if i have to.

also, what sort of pain can i expect? any good/scary stories about the procedure? i'm really nervous about it all, but i feel like my life will be a lot better with the surgery.

what can i expect for a recovery time? i'm in college, so obviously i'd get this done over winter break or during the summer, but approximately how long will i have to wait before i'll feel well enough to get back to my regular life?

I was 34 when I had mine done. I was a 42 ddd! I felt like I had
2 basket balls hanging from my chest. You may have a problem
because most insurances only cover breast reduction if it is
considered a medical problem. I can understand the back
problems, I think you may have good chance due to the curvature
of the spine. But be aware, they are going to ask you to come
up with a 2nd opion - lilke they did me. And I had massive breasts! They take pictures - before & after so be aware of that.
You may have to really do your homework on this one. I was able
to have it & not pay a cent - they took 3 1/2 pounds off each side!
I tell you the improvment was a blessing! Yes, it's gonna hurt -
I had problems with the anesthesia - I threw up all night! I kept
holding myself (like they were going to fall out!) I walked around
like that for weeks. I took a painkiller for the pain. They have to
move up your nipples, & that is not an easy thing. This means
if you want to breast feed if you have kids you cannot do it - they
take the ducts out when they do the reduction. I didn't have a
problem with that one - I never had kids. I am 51 now and I DO
consider this to be one of the best things I ever done! It cost
$10,000 and the insurance paid for the whole thing. Like I said,
this was in 1990 so I can imagine the hoops you'll have to jump
through! I wish you the best!

You will be okay after about two weeks, but you still won't be able to raise your arms up for another four at least. I had the surgery and it was the best thing I could have done., If you have extra weight on your body, i would lose it first and then do the breast reduction. That's what the doctors will tell you to do first. Also once you have it be careful not to gain an excess amount of weight or they will come back eventually. You sure sound like you need it bad. With the strap indentations and shoulder pain, your insurance should cover you.

First you need to go see a highly recommended and skilled plastic surgeon-board certified and all that---not the cheapies doctors for that's where you find the horror stories-no attempt to cut costs when it comes to plastic surgery for damage costly and sometimes unable to correct----watch the DHEA Channel on TV the one where they do all the Medical Stuff and plastic surgeries-all the doctors they name are very skilled and well known. Then his Office Manager will arrange with your Insurance Company and 38DD qualifies you esp if causing negatives on the quality of your life-can't do the things you have enjoyed and making spine worse-that can cause serious problem.on the future debilitating and pain. The doctor, doctor's orders will convince your insurance co.much more effectively than you for needs to be doctor initiated and done for medical and not cosmetic purpose and for that they'll require doctor verification. Don't see why you wouldn't be able to have done and just pay your normal co-pay that's required by insurance. But go make a appt. and good luck

Don't know about insurance but a niece had it done and is a new woman. She wonders why she waited so long. There was quite a long time she couldn't wear a bra and was off work for a time (don't remember the length of time) but she's very happy with it. I am too because I don't have to bend over from the waist to give her a hug.
