i own a repair shop,,and yes i have seen this happen before,,first off did you have the flywheel turned down,,or re-surfaced in it,,this must be done.also look at the input splines on the transmission shaft,,if they have a twisted look to them this will wear a clutch out every few months or sooner,,what happens is it don't let the clutch dis engage all the way,,and it does what it known as scrubbing on the disc part of the clutch,,and wears it out, this is a what cause it,,either that or it is being not adjusted right when it being put in,,that's the only ting that can cause it other than a real bad oil leak and oil getting on the disc,,good luck i hope this helps

If your clutch is installed properly it should last a long time, Ford or no Ford.
When the clutch is replaced it should include a new pressure plate, (Cover) and a new Thrust bearing. (Throw out bearing)
if the clutch is slipping even slightly it will wear out faster. Gun it in a lower gear and if the engine races it is probably slipping.
Do it right are three key words.
Good Luck

Hey!! I had the same problem with a 75 Monte Carlo. After the second clutch in 7 months I discovered that the flywheel was "dished" from being over tourqued.Have your mechanic check it out.Especially if you see a lot ot wear toward the outer edge of the clutch plate.

It could be the way it is driven! My brother has a truck (222ci 6cyl) that was made in 1981, and has 200k on it so far,- with orig clutch. Mine has a 302 in it, and has 80k! The bodies are falling off, but the clutches still work.
Or maybe it is the installer?

Yes it's a lemon, simply because it's an explorer. They get little-no gas mileage.
