My sister did this years ago. She had a white rat with red eyes, and it was kinda creepy. She took it where ever she went, even to the restaurants I worked in at the time! People made so much fun of her because she was the wierd girl with the rat. That isn't the worst part. She had to get another rat that was a male. They had tons of babies, so she had 30 rats at one time. Is that disgusting or what?

Last answerer- god, are you a rat yourself? I never said rats were disgusting, silly person who can't read. I only said disgusting because she had 30 of them. 30! I'm sorry, but 30 of any rodent is disgusting!

We have a female white rat. So no I don't find having one as weird. The vet said they are actually smarter than dogs. But now having 30 at one time is a little odd to me. But as I always say each to their own. Finky goes with us to some places just not everywhere. People are freaked out by rats because they have a preconceived notion of what they think rats are. Those people couldn't be further from the truth. A little education goes a long way. The ones that freak the most over finky are the ones that after petting and holding her are the ones that end up wanting one.

Any of any rodent is disgusting. That is why they are called rodents.

They eat food and contaminate it with urine and excrement.
They gnaw into materials such as paper, books, wood or upholstery which they use as nest material. They also gnaw plastic, cinder blocks, soft metals such as lead and aluminum, and wiring which may cause a fire hazard.
Rats occasionally bite people and may kill small animals.
They, or the parasites they carry, (such as fleas, mites and worms) spread many diseases.
Rats can damage ornamental plants by burrowing among the roots, or feeding on new growth or twigs. They also eat some garden vegetables, such as corn and squash.
Rats and mice are socially unacceptable. These rodents have been a problem for centuries, chiefly because they have an incredible ability to survive and are so difficult to eliminate. In addition, they are extremely compatible with human behavior and needs.

I have a pet rat but I never take it with me. Maybe it gave you sister courage or self- confidence. Rats like rabbits mate a lot if not seperated. I would sell or give away the babies.

Rats are not discusting I don't know who taught you about animals, but obviously you need to do some reaserch before you ask a question like this. Rats are one of the cleanest animals in the world. They are even cleaner than humans.

What is so wrong with rats? I have 3 grown rats now, and my baby Tonya just gave birth to 14, we are keeping 4 and getting rid of 10.

Whats wrong with taking rats to places? Is it discusting to take a dog to places? What about cats? HMMM. I don't know, but I think you need to do reaserch on that.

And no-one has ever made fun of me because I have rats. Most people ask questions and get interested. And they are the ones that usually after asking the questions, go and do reaserch and buy a couple.

It is not discusting. DO REASERCH. Okay, you came on here knowing nothing, and now you do know something.

I gotta say that is a lot of rats! Rats make great pets just ask any rat owner! It is a bit strange tho to have so MANY rats just as it would be strange to have 30 dogs or cats.

Yeah I use to have one before she died of cancer. They're the best! They're loving and very caring. I'd recommend a rat over a hamster or gerbil because hamsters and gerbils bit you and a rat will not unless you have food on your hands. My brother currently owns one and I might be getting another. Say what you will about rats but I and a lot of other people all agree that rats are awesome!!!

i had hamsters when i was young-- so a rat doesnt seem so wierd. of course they stayed home and in a cage-- as for 30-- i would say thats a little overboard-- sell some back to the pet store and make some money for feed. oh-- keep only the few you love and sell off the remainder

I have had several rats as pets over the years. They make wonderful pets, and can be affectionate and friendly. They rarely bite. I highly recommend them over most other rodents as pets. Nothing "weird" about it!

not digusting at all, rats are very clean animals, and make great pets. they are very smart, they can learn tricks, they are easy to be around. We used to run a rattery and some of our rats we could take anywhere with us. our biggest problem was coming up with names for them all.
